Five of Linton Park Estate in Wellington’s wines excelled at this year’s prestigious International Michelangelo Wine & Spirit Awards. The awards include a Grand D’Or (Double Gold) for The Bridge of Hope Chardonnay 2014 and a Gold Award for Linton Park Estate Shiraz 2014 as well as three Silver Awards.

The Bridge of Hope Chardonnay 2014
Winemaker JG Auret’s aim with this delightful Double Gold Chardonnay – coming from a block 2.8ha in size and planted in 1992 - was to craft a creamy buttery texture on the mouthfeel without the oak overpowering the fruit taste.

Although the wine had 12 months maturation all in French oak, his philosophy of the oak respecting the fruit is quite evident. He believes this Chardonnay will be a delight to many wine-lovers who are yet to discover Linton Park’s wines.

The Bridge of Hope - the story behind the brand

This wine brand, created at Linton Park and the brainchild of dynamic businesswoman and entrepreneur Rosemary Mosia, has an intriguing story behind it.

Whilst working towards her Masters Degree in Business Leadership, she conducted a research project about the wine industry and her fascination with having an own wine brand ignited. In 2014 Rosemary secured a partner in Linton Park Wines and her company became a reality.

The value proposition of the brand being ‘we will take you there’ is more than a bridge of moving consumers from one varietal sensation to the next in the range, but at heart is the commitment of uplifting communities with a social responsibility of targeting youth unemployment.

Winemaker JG Auret mentioned that the grapes for this wine originate from a block 2.5ha in size and planted on the estate in 1997. He personally loves the refreshing and bright red fruit undertones in this Gold Award winner. He matured the wine for 14 months in French, American and Hungarian oak.

He remarked: “The wine is effortlessly integrated as tannin and fruit support each other with a bright line of natural acidity. I think this is a great shiraz for sheer enjoyment for all red wine lovers.”

 Reasons for success

Berenice Barker, Sales and Marketing Director, commented that there is a combination of factors contributing to Linton Park’s successes.

She added: “The valley and mountainous slopes of the majestic Groenberg Mountains, overlooking Wellington with views as far as Table Mountain, offer us several diverse microclimates in which our vineyards are sited and which we optimise to craft exceptional wines. As a team, we celebrate our Michelangelo awards and other recent successes.”
