The wait is finally over and the 5-star Platter wines have been announced.

Hartenberg Wine Estate’s Gravel Hill Shiraz 2013 was one of only nine, in the Shiraz/Syrah category, to earn a prestigious 5-star rating in the latest edition of the authoritative and internationally recognized Platter’s by Diners Club South African Wine Guide 2018, due for release mid-November. The results were announced on 3 November at an event held in Cape Town.

A Gold medal winner at the 2017 Syrah du Monde Gold competition in France, Cellar Master Carl Schultz describes this award-winning wine as multi-layered with beautiful aromas of cherry, ripe plum and a hint of spice on the nose. This perfumed bouquet of flavours lead into an elegant palate of spice, olive tapenade and sandalwood flavours. This combination of powerful flavours make for the perfect wine with a lingering savoury finish.

The marriage between food and wine are a perfect match when served with a fillet of Kudu with a red wine jus, or a rare roast sirloin. A wild mushroom risotto also makes for a great pairing. The Gravel Hill Shiraz 2013 is available directly from the cellar at R595 per bottle in limited quantities, as well as specialist wine stores.
