The Fleur du Cap winemaking team are honoured to be recognised as one of the Top 20 Cellars for the past decade by the SA Wine & Cellar Classifications (SAWCC).

The recognition is based on the best track records in over 30 local and international forums for the assessment of wine quality and interest value over the past ten years (2008 to 2017). To be acknowledged for this award, wines of the Cape must have a minimum of three vintages with good to excellent reviews during the ten-year period from at least one of the world’s top judging panels. These panels include the likes of: Decanter World Wine Awards (UK), IWSC (UK), Platter’s SA Wine Guide (5 Star and Highly Recommended) or the Six Nations Challenge (AU).

Winemaker Pieter Badenhorst and this team are thrilled that their efforts have received this prestigious accolade: “Because of the freedom we have in our sourcing, we are able to select our grapes from the finest winegrowing regions of the Cape and as such aren’t bound by a specific farm, site, vineyard or climate. We use a more hands-on, traditional winemaking approach rather than modern filtration processes to preserve the colour, flavour and character of the grapes. The result is a range of elegant wines of great complexity with abundant fruit and flavour showing their true varietal character.”

Fleur du Cap wines were among SA Top Ten in each of the major wine categories:

  • Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Merlot
  • Fleur du Cap Noble Late Harvest
The SAWCC also included Fleur du Cap wines in their 2018 Hall of Fame. This selection, in particular, is of great achievement as wines recognised here have a track record of eight award-winning vintages over the past ten years:

  • Fleur du Cap Noble Late Harvest
  • Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Chardonnay
Fleur du Cap wines are available at retail outlets nationwide, found on many restaurant wine lists and can also be delivered to your door when purchased online through the Vinotèque https://www.vinoteque.co.za/collections/fleur-du-cap.

More on Fleur du Cap:

Fleur du Cap wines were first launched in 1968, shortly after the opening of Die Bergkelder, the famous mountain cellar which cuts deep into the Papegaaiberg in Stellenbosch. Built by Dr. Anton Rupert, it was the first underground bottle maturation cellar of its kind in the southern hemisphere. Die Bergkelder distinguished itself as an important innovator in the wine industry. In the 1970s, the team played a pivotal role in establishing classic noble grape varieties in the vineyards of the Cape and introduced the maturation of quality wine in small casks of new French oak. The launch in 1998 of the top tier Fleur du Cap Series Unfiltered range is testament to this pioneering legacy.
